
Ole Miss Earns 8-Inning 3-2 Win Over Liberty

Liberty’s Savannah Jessee hit a go-ahead RBI double in the eighth, but Ole Miss’ Aynslie Furbush gave the Rebels the 3-2 win with a walk-off homer, Thursday at Nancy Almaraz Stadium.
Ole Miss improves to 5-2 on the season, as it has competed in both sessions of this year’s Puerto Vallarta College Challenge. Meanwhile, Liberty (1-6) sustained its third setback in a row and second straight one-run loss.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit Ole Miss 6-4 for the game, with both teams committing two errors. The Lady Flames left 12 runners on base, compared to six stranded for the Rebels.
- Furbush (3-0) allowed two unearned runs on six hits, walking one and striking out six in eight innings. She helped out her own cause, batting 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored.
- Karlie Keeney (0-4) drew the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits, walking three and fanning two.
- Keila Kamoku was the only Rebel other than Furbush to record a hit, going 2-for-4.
- Liberty’s Devyn Howard (2-for-5) and Rachel Craine (2-for-4) had two hits each, while Howard scored a run. Jessee and Raye Green had a double each.
Turning Point
- Ole Miss’ Mya Stevenson was robbed of homers to right (Rachel Roupe in the 1st) and left (KK Madrey in the 6th), keeping the game scoreless.
- Liberty left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth, as Furbush struck out the last two batters. Lassiter led off the home half of the sixth with a walk and stole second, going to third on a throwing error on the play. Furbush then hit a two-out go-ahead single.
- The Lady Flames tied it up when Soto’s slow roller with two outs in the seventh was fumbled at second base, allowing Howard to score from second and tie the game. Liberty cashed in the International tiebreaker run on Jessee’s double in the eighth, but could not add a run.
- Ole Miss tied it up quickly in the eighth, with the inherited runner scoring from second after a collision at first on a sac bunt. Furbush ended the game with a solo homer to center, winning an 11-pitch at bat.
Beyond the Box Score
- Ole Miss leads the all-time series against Ole Miss, 2-1. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in a 4-2 Liberty victory, Feb. 9, 2020. That was the first pitching victory in the career of today’s starting pitcher for the Lady Flames, Karlie Keeney.
- The Lady Flames are 0-3 in extra-inning games this season and 0-3 in one-run contests, while today was the first extra-inning contest for Ole Miss this year.
- Liberty has competed in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge twice in program history, with the first coming in the 2019 season.
