Liberty took the No. 2 UCLA Bruins to the limit, with UCLA rallying for a 3-2 win over the Lady Flames, Tuesday at Easton Stadium.
UCLA improves to 7-0 with its closest win of the season after the Bruins outscored opponents 59-3 at its season-opening tournament. The Lady Flames hold a 1-5 record, with all five setbacks coming to Top 25 opponents.
Liberty has received votes in the first two USA Today/NFCA Division I Softball Top 25 Coaches Polls of the season.

Notable Numbers
- UCLA outhit Liberty 8-3, with the Bruins committing the game’s lone error. The hosts left nine runners on base, while the Lady Flames stranded two.
- Megan Faraimo (4-0) struck out 13 batters, walking one while allowing two runs on three hits.
- Paige Bachman (1-2) yielded three runs (two earned) on eight hits, walking five and fanning two in six innings.
- Kennedy Powell batted 2-for-3 with one RBI for the Bruins, while ULCA had seven different batters record base hits. Rachel Cid and Sharlize Palacios had one RBI each.
- Raye Green (1-for-3) hit her first career home run, a two-run game-tying blast in the second. Devyn Howard and Raigan Barrett both singled.
Turning Point
- Trailing 2-0 in the top of the second, Alexis Soto drew a leadoff walk. With two outs, Green tied it up with one swing of the bat. In the home half, UCLA threatened with runners on first and second. Jordan Woolery bounced one up the middle that Raigan Barrett deflected on a dive. Rachel Craine picked up the ball and second and turned and inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.
- UCLA’s Alyssa Garcia began the home half of the fifth with a hit and went to second on a passed ball. Powell hit a go-ahead RBI single for a 3-2 lead.
- Craine led off the seventh by reaching on an error. UCLA threw out the lead runner and then Green grounded into a game-ending double play.
Beyond the Box Score
- UCLA leads the all-time series against Liberty 5-0. Three out of the five meetings have been decided by one run each.
- Liberty Head Coach Dot Richardson coached at UCLA’s Easton Stadium for the second time today and first since March 9, 2019. Richardson was named the NCAA Softball Player of the 1980’s for her stellar career as the Bruins’ shortstop. Richardson’s No. 1 jersey was retired by UCLA softball in 1999.
- Green is the first Lady Flame since Rachel Craine against Arkansas on March 10, 2022 to have her first career home run come against a Top 25 opponent.

Liberty travels to Mexico for the second time in program history, competing in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge from Thursday through Sunday. While in Mexico, the Lady Flames take on Ole Miss, Kansas, Tennessee and Cal State Fullerton.
