LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's basketball team will be adding a second post player from north of the border, as Canada native Ify Nwaobi has signed a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2024-25 academic year.
Nwaobi will join redshirt sophomore center Emily Howard as Canadian post players on next year's roster.
Nwaobi rounds out the Lady Flames' four-member signing class, joining Maleah Alexander, Avery Mills and Emmy Stout as incoming freshmen for the 2024-25 team.
"We are excited to have four high-character, quality young women join our Liberty family," said Liberty Head Coach Carey Green. "These four players have amazing basketball skills and are going to have a major impact on the future success of the women's basketball program."
Ify Nwaobi (F, 6-2, Calgary, Alberta, Canada)
Nwaobi is a senior at Edge School in Calgary. A year ago, she was named a Grind Session All-Star after pulling down a single-game record 17 rebounds. Nwaoib was selected to participate in the 2023 BioSteel All-Canadian Games.
Nwaobi, who plays for the Genesis Basketball club, stated, "I am beyond blessed to compete at the next level with the Lady Flames family."
What They're Saying about Ify Nwaobi
"Ify is an exceptional athlete with a pro frame who is very capable of contributing at various positions on the court. She has the ability to impact both inside with power and outside with a 15-foot jumper that reaches out to three-point range. We are extremely excited to know that Ify can change the game with her rebounding ability. Her length to defend the basket along with a smooth demeanor will have a positive impact on the success of our team."
Carey Green, Liberty Women's Basketball Head Coach
"Ify brings a great combination of size and skill to the court. Her unique talents will be a solid addition to the Liberty program. I believe she is just scratching the surface, and Liberty is just the program to help her develop into a force."
Mike Stevens, Edge School Girls' Basketball Head Coach
"We are thrilled for Ify to join Coach Green and the rest of the staff at Liberty. Ify and her smooth skill set will translate well to the Division I level and fit in perfectly with the Lady Flames."
Eddie Richardson, Edge School Director of Basketball Operations and Genesis Basketball President/Director
