
Four Flames Named to OVC Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams

LYNCHBURG, VA. – Four Liberty Flames were selected to the first-ever Ohio Valley Men's Soccer All-Conference team. The 2023 OVC Men's Soccer All-Conference team was selected by the league's head coaches and athletics communications directors and announced this evening at the OVC Men's Soccer Championship banquet in Edwardsville, Ill.
Flames defender Bryce Swinehart and midfielder Gabe Findley were named to the 2023 OVC All-Conference first team, while midfielder Luke Eberle and forward Michael Huss were voted to the second team.
Liberty freshman Leo Conneh was selected to the OVC All-Newcomer team.
The Flames finished the year with a 9-6-3 overall record and third in the first season of OVC Men's Soccer with a 4-4-2 mark. Liberty's nine wins were its most in a season since the 2017 Flames posted a 10-6-1 record.
In addition, Liberty scored 35 goals in 2023 to finish the year 19th nationally. The Flames' goal total was the most by a Flames team since 2010. That year, Liberty also scored 35 goals.
Defender Bryce Swinhart earns his first all-conference nod. The sophomore scored a career high five goals and was a key member of Liberty's defensive efforts in 2023. He tied for second on the Flames and eighth in the OVC in goals. The defender also had two game-winning goals for Liberty. He was selected as the OVC Defensive Player of the Week for Sept. 19.
The Charlotte, N.C. native started every game for the Flames and was part of a defensive unit that allowed 1.39 goals per game, the second lowest in the OVC.
Midfielder Gabe Findley also garnered his first all-conference selection. The senior started all 18 games for the Flames, scoring five goals and assisting on three others for 13 points, all career highs. He also netted two game-winning goals.
Findley's five goals tied him for second on the Flames and eighth in the OVC. The Lynchburg, Va. native also finished the year 10th in the conference in points.
Midfielder Luke Eberle receives his second all-conference honor. Last season, he was named to the 2022 ASUN All-Conference second team.
This season, Eberle, who started all 18 matches for the Flames, scored a team-leading seven goals and had four assists for a team-high 18 points. The midfielder's goals, assists and points were all career highs. He is the first Liberty player to score seven or more goals in a season since Kevin Mendoza and Tresor Mbuyu each scored 12 in 2018. He also had two game-winning goals.
The senior finished the year tied for second in goals and points in the OVC. The Annapolis, Md., native was also tied for seventh in the conference in assists.
Forward Michael Huss also garners his first all-conference selection. The forward also had a career year in 2023. He started all 18 games, netting five goals and assisting on four others for 14 points, all career highs. He also had two game-winning goals.
Huss finished the year tied for second on the Flames and eighth in the OVC in goals and points. The Phoenix, Ariz., native also was tied for second on Liberty and tied for seventh in the OVC in assists. The forward was also named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 19.
Conneh had quite a freshman year in 2023. The forward finished the year tied for the OVC lead and led the Flames with seven assists. He also scored two goals and finished the season with 11 points. The freshman also led Liberty in shots with 39, one more than Findley and Huss.
