Liberty Volleyball Earns 1st CUSA Victory, 3-1 Over NMSU

The Liberty volleyball team defeated New Mexico State 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-21, 25-17) to earn its first Conference USA victory, Saturday at Liberty Arena.
Liberty (8-9, 1-4) snapped a nine-match winless streak. Meanwhile, NMSU fell to 12-6, 5-2 in CUSA play.

- For the match, Liberty outhit NMSU .240-.087. The Lady Flames also led in kills (50-40) and assists (45-39). Both teams recorded 54 digs and 13 blocks. The Aggies held an 8-7 advantage in aces.
- Kamryn Bacus scored a match-high 16 kills and added five blocks. Kate Phillips contributed 12 kills and 17 digs, while Madison Blane (.400) totaled 12 kills and a season-high-tying eight blocks. Delaney Dilfer dished out a match-high 43 assists, while Zoi Sherolli served up two aces and collected 13 digs.
- NMSU's Mari Sharp registered a double-double with 12 kills and 14 digs while Darian Markham led all players with three aces and 21 digs. Kacia Brown and Aleka Darko tied for the team lead with six blocks each, while Rilen Garcia led NMSU with 18 assists.
- After the teams split the first two sets, Liberty opened set three with a 6-0 serving run by Sherolli. The Lady Flames held off a late surge by NMSU to win 25-21 and later pulled away for a 25-17 set-four victory.
- Liberty and New Mexico State are now tied 1-1 all-time in volleyball. The only previous match in the series with a 3-0 NMSU sweep of the Lady Flames, Sept. 20, 2003 in Flagstaff, Ariz.
- Sherolli, making her second consecutive start at libero, reached double-digits in digs for the third match in a row and sixth time in her career.
- NMSU's .067 hitting percentage marks the third time this season that Liberty has held an opponent under .100. The other two instances came in the first two matches of the season, 3-0 sweeps of Bucknell and Gardner-Webb.
- Liberty posted 10 or more blocks for the fifth time this year.
- Liberty is now 7-6 in sets decided by two points so far this season.
- Phillips reached double figures in kills for the sixth match in a row. Meanwhile, Bacus and Phillips are now tied for the team lead with 10 double-digit kill matches apiece this year. Blane posted her third straight double-digit kill match and third eight-block contest of the campaign.
- Freshman Lily Wagner made her first career start, serving up two aces and collecting nine digs.
- Phillips has posted three double-doubles this season and 21 for her career.
