LYNCHBURG, VA. – Forward Leo Conneh has been selected as the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league's office announced this morning.
It is the second time this season that a Flame has been the conference's Offensive Player of the Week. Fellow forward Michael Huss also was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 19.
This past week, Conneh helped Liberty to start 2-0 in OVC play. The Flames, 7-2 overall, scored 10 goals in victories over Chicago State and Houston Christian. It is the first time since 2012 when Liberty was a member of the Big South Conference that the Flames have begun conference play at 2-0.
On Thursday evening in Liberty's first-ever OVC match, Conneh netted the first two goals of his career in Liberty's 7-1 victory over Chicago State at Osborne Stadium. The freshman, the OVC assists leader, also recorded two assists to finish the evening with six points. The point total was the most for a Liberty player in a game since Tresor Mbuyu posted seven in a 5-0 win over VMI on Aug. 28, 2018.
Conneh played 63 minutes in Liberty's 3-1 victory over HCU on Sunday. The forward was part of a solid Flames' defensive effort in the victory.
Conneh has two goals and an OVC-leading six assists for 10 points on the season. Currently, the freshman is 11th in the nation in assists. The Anoka, Minn., native is also tied for fourth in the OVC in points with teammate Gabe Findley.
Conneh and the Flames will travel to Chicago, Ill., for their first-ever OVC road contest on Thursday. Liberty will square off with Chicago State at Gwendolyn Brook College Prep Field. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CST).
