
Flames Go to 20-0 in ASUN Play After Doubleheader Sweep at UNF

Liberty improved to 20-0 in ASUN play with a 6-2 win over North Florida in game two of a doubleheader, Saturday at UNF Softball Complex.
Liberty (37-14, 20-0 ASUN) is one of just two NCAA Division I softball teams to remain unbeaten in conference play this season. Boston University is a perfect 14-0 in Patriot League play. The Lady Flames clinched the No. 1 seed in the 2022 ASUN Softball Championship earlier today. Meanwhile, UNF (39-14, 16-7) will finish second in the ASUN East Division and is battling with three teams in the ASUN West Division for the No. 2 overall seed.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit UNF 10-4, while the Ospreys committed three errors which led to four unearned runs. The Lady Flames left eight runners on base compared to seven stranded for North Florida.
- Emily Kirby (10-5) picked up her 10th win, improving to 8-0 in ASUN play while allowing one run on two hits, walking six and striking out three in five innings. Megan Johnson pitched two innings in relief, yielding one unearned run on two hits.
- UNF’s Erin Kyle (8-5) drew the loss, giving up six runs (two earned) on nine hits, walking one and fanning one in 4 2/3 innings pitched. Izzy Kelly pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.
- Paige Bachman batted 2-for-3 with a career-high three RBI, while Mary Claire Wilson went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, one steal and two runs scored. Kara Canetto batted 2-for-4, good for her team-leading 19th multiple-hit game of the year. Denay Griffin drove in two runs for the Lady Flames.
- UNF leadoff batter Kayla Harper went 2-for-3 with one run scored, while the Ospreys got one RBI each from Kyla McGory and Paige Pfent.
Turning Point
- UNF left a total of five runners stranded over the first two innings, as Liberty’s Emily Kirby worked through trouble. The Liberty bats then got going, opening up the scoring with a two-run single by Griffin in the third.
- The Lady Flames added one in the fourth and three in the fifth to build a 6-0 lead. UNF spoiled the shutout bid with a fifth-inning run before scoring once in the seventh to make it 6-2.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty leads the all-time series with the Ospreys, 6-2. The Lady Flames are now 5-0 all-time against North Florida at UNF Softball Complex. Liberty is also 11-0 all-time in ASUN regular-season games played in the Sunshine State.
- The Lady Flames have wrapped up the No. 1 overall seed for the conference tournament for the fifth time in program history. Liberty served as the top seed at the Big South Softball Championship in 2000, 2007, 2017 and 2018. Last year, Liberty was the No. 1 seed in the ASUN North Division.
- Liberty has set a new program single-season record for conference wins with 20, as the 2018 Lady Flames went 18-3 in Big South play.
- Liberty has won each of its last 33 ASUN regular-season games, a streak which began April 3, 2021 against Kennesaw State.
- Liberty has set a new program record for road winning streak, winning 13 straight away games. The Lady Flames posted a 12-game road winning streak from March 30 through April 15, 1999.
- Liberty is a perfect 32-0 this season when scoring first in a game.
- Griffin and Roupe have both reached base safely in 10 straight games, tied for the longest active consecutive games reaching base streak on the team.
- Kirby had not allowed a single run in her last 17 innings pitched in ASUN play before yielding one run in the fifth inning today.
- Bachman is the 12th Lady Flame this season to post at least one three-RBI game.
