
Late Two-Out Rallies Propel Liberty to 5-1 Win at UNF, Sweeping Series

Two-out, two-run base hits by Paige Bachman and Rachel Roupe in the final two innings pushed Liberty past North Florida 5-1 in Sunday’s series finale at UNF Softball Complex.
Liberty (38-14) remains perfect in ASUN play at 21-0 following its seventh conference series sweep of the season. UNF ends its regular season at 39-15, 16-8 in ASUN games and in second play in the ASUN East Division. The Ospreys will await next weekend’s results to see what their seeding will be for the 2022 ASUN Softball Championship.

Turning Point
- With the game tied at 1-1 entering the bottom of the fifth, Liberty turned to reigning ASUN Pitcher of the Year Emily Kirby. She hit the first batter she saw, and pinch runner Takiya London stole second before going to third on a sacrifice bunt. Kirby then slammed the door, striking out the next two batters.
- Kara Canetto led off the sixth with a double and went to third on a sacrifice bunt. Soto later drew a two-out walk, before pinch runner Raigan Barrett stole second. Paige Bachman then came through with a two-out, two run single to make it 3-1 Flames.
- The Lady Flames had a similar rally in the seventh, getting a two-out, two-run double from Roupe to double the lead to 5-1.
Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit UNF 9-3 for the game, with the Ospreys recording two errors. The Lady Flames left eight on base compared to three stranded for UNF.
- For the series, Liberty outscored UNF 12-3, holding the Ospreys to just nine total base hits.
- Kirby (11-5) earned her second win of the weekend, improving to 9-0 in ASUN play with three scoreless innings of relief in which she allowed one hit and struck out five. Starter McKenzie Wagoner yielded one run on just two hits, fanning one and walking two in four inning pitched.
- Halle Arends (19-5) drew the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits, walking three and striking out nine.
- Canetto batted 2-for-4 with two doubles, her sixth straight ASUN game with two hits. Lou Allan went 2-for-4, while Rachel Roupe batted 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Paige Bachman went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
- Shannon Glover recorded two of UNF’s hits, a double and a homer.

- Liberty leads the all-time series with the Ospreys, 7-2. The Lady Flames are now 6-0 all-time against North Florida at UNF Softball Complex. Liberty is also 12-0 all-time in ASUN regular-season games played in the Sunshine State.
- Liberty saw a familiar face across the diamond this weekend, as UNF starting shortstop Savannah Channell started at shortstop for the Lady Flames in both 2020 and 2021 before transferring to North Florida.
- Liberty has set a new program single-season record for conference wins with 21, as the 2018 Lady Flames went 18-3 in Big South play.
