
Liberty Sweeps Doubleheader, Run-Rules Jacksonville 8-0

Liberty scored four times in the fifth inning, backing up an Emily Kirby two-hitter in an 8-0, run-rule victory over Jacksonville in game two of a doubleheader, Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
Liberty (34-13, 17-0 ASUN) remains unbeaten in ASUN play after today's doubleheader sweep. The Lady Flames outscored the Dolphins a combined 11-0 over the two games, outhitting them 18-6. Jacksonville falls to 14-25, 8-9 in ASUN play.
Liberty has clinched a spot in the main draw of the 2022 ASUN Softball Championship, and will open play on May 12 in Jacksonville, Fla. The tournament opens with play-in games on May 10 followed by first-round contests on May 11.

- Liberty held an 11-2 advantage in hits, with Jacksonville committing the game’s lone error. Jacksonville left six runners on base, compared to four stranded for the Lady Flames.
- Kirby (9-4) allowed just two hits, walking four and striking out seven in the complete-game shutout, her fourth of the season and third in ASUN play.
- Jacksonville’s Shelby Harpe (3-13) drew the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, walking two in 3 2/3 innings. Ashlee Harwood allowed four runs on five hits in 1/3 of an inning.
- Lou Allan batted 2-for-3 with a double, homer, two RBI and one run scored, while Kara Canetto batted 2-for-2 with one run scored. Devyn Howard (1-for-2, double, sac fly) and Rachel Roupe (1-for-3) drove in two runs each, while Paige Bachman batted 1-for-1 with two runs scored.
Turning Point
- Jacksonville appeared poised to open up the scoring in the first, loading the bases with two outs. However, Kirby got Joely Leguizamon to line out to first to end the inning.
- Liberty scored three times in the third and once in the fourth and then ended the game with four runs on five straight hits to begin the bottom of the fifth.

- Liberty is now 6-3 against Jacksonville in softball, including 6-0 against the Dolphins since joining the ASUN in 2019. The last five meetings have all resulted in Liberty shutouts of Jacksonville.
