
Clemson Walks Off 1-0 in 8-Inning Pitchers' Duel With Liberty

For the second day in a row, Clemson recorded a two-out walk-off win in the eighth inning, as the Tigers secured a 1-0 victory over Liberty, Monday at McWhorter Stadium.
Clemson (17-6) went 4-0 at this weekend’s Tiger Invitational, which was extended a day due to cold weather on Saturday. Liberty (14-11) dropped four one-run games in Clemson, including three eight-inning losses. The Lady Flames have sustained five straight setbacks.
Turning Point
- Liberty had its best chance to score in the fifth, getting the first two batters of the inning to second and third with nobody out. Valerie Cagle kept the game scoreless with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout.
- With the game tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Emily Kirby struck out Cagle for the second out. Marissa Guimbarda then singled, and an error put runners on the corners for Alia Logoleo, who reached on an error which allowed the winning run to score.

- Clemson outhit Liberty 6-5 for the game. The Tigers left seven runners on base, while the Lady Flames stranded six. Liberty committed two costly errors, with both coming after two outs in the eighth. Liberty (0-for-7) and Clemson (0-for-6) went a combined 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
- 2021 ACC Player of the Year Valerie Cagle (7-4) tossed a five-hit shutout, striking out 10 against no walks.
