
Liberty Shuts Down Maine 6-0

Liberty lefthander Emily Kirby tossed a four-hit shutout and the Lady Flames’ offense scored six times in a 6-0 victory on Saturday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames (7-6) improve to 2-1 at the Liberty Softball Classic with a win in the first game of today’s doubleheader. The Black Bears (1-7) have lost all three of their games this weekend.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty recorded a season-high 13 hits, compared to just four for Maine. The Black Bears committed one error. The Lady Flames left nine runners on base, while Maine stranded six.
- Emily Kirby (1-2) tossed her 11th career shutout and first this season. She struck out a season-high six batters, walking one and allowing four hits.
- Maine’s Emily Reid (0-3) drew the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits and walking one in two innings. Gabbie Siciliano gave up one run on five hits in four innings of relief.
- Devyn Howard went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI. It was her first career four-hit game. Lou Allan and Mary Claire Wilson both went 1-for-2, with Wilson hitting a double. Making her first career start, Alexis Soto recorded her first career hit.
- Brianna Neely went 2-for-2 with two stolen bases for Maine.
Turning Point
- Liberty scored in four out of its six innings at the plate, getting RBI from five different player. Canetto’s RBI single in the sixth made it 6-0.
- The Black Bears threatened to score, loading the bases in the fifth inning before Kirby got out of the inning with a fielder’s choice grounder.

- Liberty is 5-1 all-time in softball against Maine. Prior to today, the last meeting between Liberty and Maine was March 16, 2013 in Clearwater, Fla. The Lady Flames won, 4-3, in walk-off fashion. Trailing 3-2 with bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Liberty’s Sammi Shivock skied a popup on the infield which was dropped by a Black Bear, allowing the tying and winning runs to score.
- Howard has tied a program record, with hits in eight straight at bats dating to yesterday’s game against George Washington. Ashley Williams recorded eight straight hits, April 8-9, 2005.
- Howard tied a Liberty Softball Stadium record for hits in a single game by a Lady Flame. The last Liberty player to record four hits in a home game was Madison Via, March 6, 2021 against ECU.
- Kirby has tied Amy Csider (1998-01) for eighth all-time in program history with 11 career shutouts.
- Soto became the seventh Lady Flame this season to record her first career hit, joining Raigan Barrett, Ava Cino, Rachel Craine, Raye Green, KC Machado and Rachel Roupe
