
Lady Flames Score 13-0 5-Inning Victory Over FAU

Liberty posted its second run-rule win of the day, scoring six runs in both the second and third innings on the way to a 13-0, five-inning victory over FAU on Friday.
The Lady Flames (2-5) earned their first two wins of the season today at THE Spring Games, no-hitting Maryland 9-0 earlier today before this afternoon’s 13-0 triumph over FAU. The Owls are 1-5 on the season, dropping games to North Carolina and Liberty today.

- Liberty outhit FAU 10-2 for the game, as the Owls committed two errors. Liberty left eight runners on base, while FAU stranded seven.
- McKenzie Wagoner (1-1) earned the win, yielding two hits in four innings pitched, walking three and fanning three. Naomi Jones pitched one inning of hitless relief with two strikeouts and one walk.
- Gabby Sacco (1-1) drew the loss for FAU, yielding six unearned runs on five hits in two innings pitches. Donnie Gobourne gave up six runs, five earned on two hits in one-third of an inning.
- Devyn Howard went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Caroline Hudson batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Kara Canetto scored twice, while Denay Griffin and Lou Allan added two RBI apiece.

Beyond the Box Score
- Today’s head coaching matchup featured two of the top legends in women’s fastpitch softball, in Liberty’s Dot Richardson and FAU’s Joan Joyce. Richardson was inducted into the ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 2006, recognizing a career in which she won Olympic Gold medals in 1996 and 2000 and the 1982 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, among numerous honors. Joyce, one of the top all-time pitchers in the game, was inducted into the ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 1983.
- FAU leads the all-time series coming, 5-2. The Owls had won three straight meetings, with the last being a 7-5, 12-inning FAU win over Liberty on March 13, 2009 in Boca Raton, Fla.
- Liberty tossed back-to-back shutouts on the same day for the first time since April 25, 2021, when the Lady Flames shut out Bellarmine by 8-0 (six innings) and 10-0 (five innings) scores. That was also the last time before today that Liberty posted back-to-back run-rule wins.
- Ava Cino recorded a double in her first career at bat, joining teammates Caroline Hudson (2020) and Mary Claire Wilson (2021) as active Lady Flames to record a hit in their first career at bat.
- Liberty’s 22 runs scored today were the most the Lady Flames have scored in a single day since March 6, 2021, when Liberty beat Longwood (19-3) and East Carolina (7-6) by a combined 26-9.
