After capturing the ASUN regular season title, the Liberty Lady Flames have earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming ASUN Women’s Soccer Championship. The conference announced the seedings and pairings with the close of the ASUN regular season earlier this afternoon.
The top eight teams in the conference’s regular season standings qualified for the tournament. With the No. 1 seed, the Lady Flames will host each round as long as they continue to advance.
The ASUN Championship gets underway with the quarterfinals and semifinals on Thursday and Sunday, with the top two seeds, Liberty and FGCU, serving as host sites.
Liberty (12-3-3, 8-0-2 ASUN) will host the No. 8 seed Jacksonville Dolphins (6-4-5, 3-4-3 ASUN) in the first quarterfinal match of the day at Osborne Stadium at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The winner of that contest advances to play the winner of the second quarterfinal match of the day between No. 4 seed Kennesaw State (7-8-3, 5-3-2 ASUN) and No. 5 seed Eastern Kentucky (8-6-2, 4-4-2 ASUN) on Sunday at Osborne Stadium at 1 p.m. During the regular season, Liberty defeated Jacksonville 2-1 on Oct. 13 in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Lady Flames went unbeaten in ASUN Conference play with an 8-0-2 record to finish first in the ASUN standings. Liberty enters its contest unbeaten in its last 10 games, a program record. Head Coach Land Wedemeyer’s team has allowed the fewest goals in the conference this season (11) and leads the conference in shutouts with 11.
Liberty has scored 35 goals so far this season, with 13 different Lady Flames scoring. McKinley Burkett and Rachel DeRuby lead Liberty with five goals each. Defender Bridie Herman leads the Lady Flames in points with 13. She leads the ASUN in assists with seven.
