Iritxity Irigoyen Tabbed to BIG EAST Field Hockey Weekly Honor Roll

Liberty goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance in a home win over No. 15 Connecticut, last week.
Iritxity Irigoyen, a sophomore, is being honored by the conference for the second time this season after receiving BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honors, Aug. 31. This is her sixth career weekly honor. Iritxity Irigoyen was named defensive player of the week four times during the spring 2021 campaign.
Iritxity Irigoyen made three saves in goal, helping No. 13 Liberty defeat No. 15 UConn 3-1 at the Liberty Field Hockey Field on Friday. The loss was only the third setback in conference play since 2013 for the nine-time defending BIG EAST champion Huskies.
Iritxity Irigoyen and the Liberty defense held UConn off the scoreboard until the 59th minute and without a goal on six penalty corner chances. The goalkeeper bolstered her record to 6-2 on the season with a 1.38 goals-against-average and 29 saves.
Iritxity and the Lady Flames (6-2, 2-0 BIG EAST) will take on Quinnipiac (0-7, 0-2 BIG EAST) in a BIG EAST road match, Friday at 1 p.m.
