No. 12 Liberty will play its BIG EAST Conference opener at Georgetown on Friday afternoon, followed by a Sunday non-conference home contest against William & Mary.
Game time between the Lady Flames (3-2) and Hoyas (2-3) is pegged for a 1 p.m. at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C. Liberty and William & Mary (0-4) will battle at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
Liberty and Georgetown are meeting for the eighth time ever and fifth time in BIG EAST competition. The Lady Flames are 7-0 all-time versus the Hoyas and 4-0 in BIG EAST games between 2016-19. In those four league games, Liberty has outscored Georgetown 17-1. The two teams last met on Oct. 18, 2019 at Cooper Field, a 4-0 triumph for Liberty. The Hoyas did not compete during the spring 2021 campaign.
The Lady Flames and William & Mary Tribe will be meeting for the third time. The series is even at 1-1. The two programs last squared off on Sept. 25, 2016, a 3-2 Liberty triumph in Williamsburg, Va.
Lady Flames News and Notes
• Liberty is in its sixth season in the BIG EAST. Since joining the league prior to the 2016 season, the Lady Flames have three runner-up finishes at the BIG EAST Championship and are 31-9 in regular season conference matches.
• Liberty is 5-0 all-time in BIG EAST openers. The Lady Flames are 4-0 against Villanova in those contests and 1-0 versus Temple. Liberty has never faced Georgetown in a league-opening game.
• Liberty senior midfielder Lizzie Hamlett earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll status on Tuesday. Hamlett scored a career-best two goals last week in the home opener versus No. 5 Northwestern.
• The Lady Flames rank among the top-10 teams in the nation in goals per game (No. 7, 3.80), scoring average (No. 7, 3.80), assists per game (No. 7, 3.00) and points per game (No. 8, 10.60).
• Liberty senior forward Jill Bolton is sixth in the nation in goals per game (1.00) and ninth in points per game (2.60). Junior forward Daniella Rhodes ranks sixth in the country in goals per game (1.00) and 12th in points per game (2.40).
• Liberty is currently No. 12 in the country in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. The Lady Flames are the highest-ranked BIG EAST team in the poll, ahead of No. 16 Connecticut (2-4) and No. 19 Old Dominion.
• Liberty’s seven-game BIG EAST regular season slate features four home games and three away contests. The Lady Flames played 12 league games in the spring, the most conference games in school history. Liberty will welcome nine-time defending BIG EAST Champion UConn to Lynchburg on Sept. 24.
