The Liberty field hockey squad will square off with No. 6 Louisville in a road contest on Sunday afternoon.
Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky. No. 11 Liberty enters the weekend with a 3-1 mark. The Lady Flames suffered their first setback of the season on Tuesday, a 4-3 loss to No. 5 Northwestern in their home opener.
Louisville brings a 4-0 record into its pair of games this weekend against Indiana (Friday, 6 p.m.) and Liberty. The Cardinals won their most recent game by a 3-2 score in overtime at No. 13 Princeton, last Sunday.
The Lady Flames and Cardinals will be meeting for the third time but first time in six years. The series is even 1-1. The two squads last met in 2015, a 3-2 double overtime triumph for Louisville. Liberty topped Louisville 2-1 on Sept. 28, 2014 at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
Lady Flames News and Notes
• Liberty junior forward Daniella Rhodes garnered BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week recognition, Tuesday. This is the third career offensive player of the week accolade for the Durban, South Africa native. The Lady Flames have now featured the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks to start the year, after Jill Bolton received the same honor at the beginning of the season.
•Liberty ranks third in the country in goals per game (4.50), scoring average (4.50) and points per game (12.75). The Lady Flames are fourth in the nation in scoring margin (3.00) and assists per game (3.75).
• Liberty’s Bolton is No. 6 in the nation in points per game (3.25) and No. 7 in goals per game (1.25). Rhodes ranks 11th nationally in goals per game (1.00) and 14th in points per game (2.50).
• The Lady Flames last faced a top-six opponent on the road during the fall 2019 campaign. Liberty fell 1-0 at No. 6 Virginia.
• Liberty is 1-1 against ranked foes, this fall. The Lady Flames bested No. 25 Stanford and lost to No. 5 Northwestern.
• Louisville’s Trager Stadium has served as the host site for the Final Four of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship six times (2002, 2005, 2008, 2011, 2017 and 2018).
