
Virginia Edges Liberty 6-5

The Virginia Cavaliers overcame an early deficit to defeat the Liberty Flames 6-5, Tuesday afternoon at Davenport Field at Disharoon Park.
The visiting Flames plated five runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead, only to be held in check the rest of the way by the Cavaliers bullpen and see their hosts come from behind for the victory.
After being held scoreless through the first five innings by Flames right-hander Dylan Cumming, Virginia scored two in the sixth and three in the seventh to tie the contest. Cavaliers designated hitter Kyle Teel then opened the bottom half of the eighth with his fifth home run of the year to put Virginia in front for the first time in the contest.
Liberty moved the tying run to second with one out in the ninth, but Virginia reliever Stephen Schoch retired the next two batters to secure the victory.
The Flames fall to 27-11 on the season. Virginia improves to 20-19.
