The Liberty women's soccer team will face Washington in the first round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship. The Lady Flames and the Huskies will square off in Matthews, N.C. at the Sportsplex, on Tuesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Each of the first four rounds will be available on NCAA.com. The winner of the Liberty/Washington matchup will face the No. 15 seed, Saint Louis in the second round.
"It was an edge of our seat experience," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said describing the NCAA Selection Show experience. "The girls were on edge, and we were sweating a little bit there waiting for our name to pop up, but it is a very exciting time and a great experience for sure."
The Lady Flames will enter the NCAA College Cup after a thrilling run in the ASUN Tournament, winning four games, including three on the road. This is Liberty's first trip to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship since 2016 and first trip to the tournament as a member of the ASUN Conference. Liberty has not allowed a goal in the last 368 minutes of action.
This will be the first time Liberty has ever faced an opponent from the Pac-12 Conference as Washington enters the tournament with a 9-3-3 record, finishing third in the Pac-12 Conference. This is Washington's second straight NCAA Tournament selection and 16th in program history and are looking to advance to the second round for the second straight year.
The entire tournament will be held in Cary, North Carolina and the surrounding areas. Games will be held on campus at Campbell, East Carolina and the University of North Carolina Wilmington, in addition to Bryan Park (Greensboro), J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex (Wilson), Sportsplex (Mathews) and WakeMed Soccer Park (Cary).
