Liberty will play a pair of road matches this week at Old Dominion and William & Mary. The Lady Flames will face the Monarchs on Wednesday, followed by a Saturday afternoon contest against the Tribe.
Liberty (2-3) and Old Dominion (2-3) will square off tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex in Norfolk, Va. On Saturday at 2 p.m., the Lady Flames will take on William & Mary (2-2) at Busch Turf Field.
Liberty won its first recent contest by an 18-10 score at home over Radford, last Wednesday. ODU dropped its last game versus George Washington by a 16-6 score, last Saturday. The Lady Flames are 2-3 all-time against the Monarchs. The two schools last met on March 22, 2019 in Lynchburg, a 14-8 Lady Flames triumph.
William & Mary is coming off a 22-16 win at Longwood this past weekend. This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the Lady Flames and Tribe. Liberty is 1-2 in the three previous meetings. The two squads last played on March 28, 2018 at the Liberty Lacrosse Field, an 11-7 Lady Flames victory.
Lady Flames News and Notes
• Liberty enters Wednesday's contest as the national leader in caused turnovers per game (17.60) and ranks No. 2 in the nation in ground balls per game (27.00).
• The Lady Flames' Mackenzie Lehman and Sarah Steenson are tied for 19th in the country with 2.40 caused turnovers per game. Goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero is fifth in the nation in ground balls per game (5.20).
• Liberty swept the ASUN weekly honors in back-to-back weeks. Two weeks ago (Feb. 24), midfielder Mia Toscano (ASUN Player of the Week) and defender Sarah Steenson (ASUN Defensive Player of the Week) received the awards. Last Wednesday, attacker Grace Fletcher (ASUN Player of the Week) and goalkeeper Jennifer Soriero (ASUN Defensive Player of the Week) were recognized by the conference for their performances.
• Leah Ruby and Brooke Bryan lead the offense with nine goals apiece through five contests. Ruby also paces the team in assists (4) and points (13).
• The Lady Flames have outpaced their opponents in several statistical categories in the early portion of the season, including goals (53-52), shots on goals (107-94), shots per game (29.8-25.8), ground balls (135-119), draw controls (61-54), caused turnovers (88-67) and clear percentage (.774-.754).
