For the second consecutive week, Liberty's Chelsea Igberaese posted a women's weight throw runner-up finish, highlighting the Flames' opening day of the Bob Pollock Invitational. Igberaese's season-best mark of 63-0 was one of the Flames' three new ASUN Conference-leading performances achieved on Friday at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.
Last weekend, Igberaese opened her season by placing second in the Liberty Elite Invitational women's weight throw competition at 59-5.75. On Friday, the Georgia native posted four throws beyond that mark, including her third-round effort which measured 63-0. That effort put Igberaese in good company, sandwiching her between national leader Madi Malone of Auburn (72-8) and defending ACC champion Debbie Ajagbe of Miami (61-11.75) in the final standings.
Grace Artis added a 10th-place weight throw finish in her first meet as a Lady Flame after transferring from Jacksonville. Her best effort measured 53-3.75.
Felix Lawrence got the Flames' day off to a strong start in the men's 60 hurdles prelims. His time of 7.95 equaled the sophomore's lifetime best and improved upon his own ASUN Conference season leader.
Lawrence later clocked a season-best time of 49.13 for 18th place in the men's 400. Making his season debut and his first attempt at the 400-meter distance for the Flames, Christian Lyon came in 14th in 48.51.
Makenzy Mizera long jumped 19-3.5 for a new season best and ASUN-leading mark, placing fourth in the event. She landed just 1.25 inches shy of her own indoor school record.
Rachel Milnes (fourth place) and Taylen Langin (seventh place) each cleared 12-11.5 in the women's pole vault. For Langin, it set an indoor personal best and ties her with Jessie Glynn for third place on Liberty's all-time list.
John Hicks continued a strong start to his sophomore campaign, heaving the weight 59-1.25 for seventh place overall and first among ASUN entrants.
