CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Liberty's women's sprint crew led the way at the Charlotte Invitational on Saturday. Iyana Sherard (100 and 200) and Mahogany Mobley (400) teamed up to sweep the women's sprint titles before contributing to the Lady Flames' fastest outdoor 4 x 400 clocking in seven years, 3:40.35.
Women's Day 2 Recap
Despite facing headwinds in both of her races, Sherard matched her 100 personal best of 11.64 and improved her 200 best to 23.53 to nab a pair of first-place finishes. The junior's 200 clocking ranks No. 4 all-time for the Lady Flames.
Mobley's winning 400 time was 53.27, and she also took sixth in the 200 at 23.91.
Maddy Merritt (who clocked a season-best 55.91 400 for eighth place) led off the 4 x 400 relay before passing the baton to Sherard, Patasha Bryan and Mobley. The Lady Flames' 3:40.35 performance placed third in the race and ranks No. 4 in program history.
It was the fastest outdoor time by a Liberty 4 x 400 team since Tanner Ealum, Ty'Asia Dansbury, Delaney McDowell and Cortney Dowling ran a program-record 3:33.20 to qualify for the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Eva Whiteman's season-best 5-7.25 high jump clearance equaled the best of the day. However, she ended up second to event champion Assiya Elhafyan of Wingate on misses.
Ellie Stine (seventh in women's discus, 145-7) and Rebecca Allen (eighth in women's long jump, 18-8.5) each advanced to the finals of their field events on Saturday.

Liberty's men's pole vaulters continued their strong campaign, as Reagan Wise cleared a personal-best 17-1.5 for fifth place and Todd Benhase made it over an outdoor personal-best 16-7.5 for seventh.
Wise is now tied with teammate Chase Johnson for fifth in program history, while Benhase is tied with Anders Janes for 10th on the list.
