After one of the biggest wins in program history, the Liberty women's soccer team swept this week's ASUN Conference honors as Gabrielle Farrell was named the ASUN Player of the Week and Melody Jayroe was named the ASUN Defensive Player of the Week.
Farrell becomes the first player in the program to receive the Player of the Week honor since Liberty has joined the ASUN as she scored the game-winning goal to defeat Pittsburgh 1-0 on Sunday. In the second half, Farrell would net her 12th career game-winning goal to give Liberty its first win in program history over an ACC school. The senior from Langhorne, Pa. started the week with an assist on the road at Elon in the 1-1 draw on the road, Thursday evening. Farrell is tied for the team lead, along with Kasey Jamieson, with seven points this season, scoring three goals along with an assist.
This is the second time in her career that Jayroe has been named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week and she is the second player in Liberty's program (Madison Ellis) that has received the ASUN honor. Jayroe's first shutout of the season could not have come at a better time against an ACC foe in Pitt that had only been shut out in one of its seven games before facing Liberty. The junior from Plano, Texas ranks fourth in program history with 13 career shutouts, just two behind Natalie Mayer for third place.
Liberty will be back in action on Thursday, for its final home game during non-conference play as the Lady Flames host James Madison at 6 p.m. at Osborne Stadium.
