The Liberty field hockey team will enter the 2017 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship as the No. 2 seed, following Friday night's 6-2 win over Temple. The Lady Flames will square off against No. 3 seed Old Dominion in the semifinals, Friday in Providence, R.I.
The Lady Flames (7-9, 5-2 BIG EAST) are in the tournament as the second seed for a second straight year. No. 1 UConn (16-0, 7-0 BIG EAST) is the top seed for the tournament. No. 3 seed Old Dominion (8-8, 5-2 BIG EAST) and No. 4 seed Providence (10-7, 4-3 BIG EAST) round out the four-team field.
"We're so excited to be going in as the No. 2 seed. We're prepared to face ODU on Friday and more than ready to be in the final on Sunday afternoon," stated Liberty freshman midfielder Jill Bolton.
This year's BIG EAST Championship will be contested Nov. 3-5 at Lennon Family Field in Providence, R.I.
The Lady Flames will play Old Dominion on Friday at 4 p.m., following a 1 p.m. meeting between UConn and Providence. All BIG EAST Championship games will be carried live on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Liberty defeated ODU, 3-1, on Sept. 29 in Lynchburg, giving the Lady Flames the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Monarchs and the No. 2 seed.
Liberty is 2-1 overall against the tournament field. The Lady Flames bested Providence, 3-0, last Friday to sew up a BIG EAST Championship berth, while they fell to Connecticut, 3-0, on Oct. 14.
