Liberty rising sophomore Bethany Wakeley opened the Lady Flames' participation at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships by swimming a time trial in the 100-meter butterfly Tuesday afternoon at Stanford University's Avery Aquatic Center.
Wakeley, Liberty's record holder in seven events, including the 100-yard butterfly, posted a time of 1:03.12 in Tuesday's 100-meter butterfly time trial. She qualified to compete in the 2011 AT&T Winter National Championships, which will take place Dec. 1-3 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga. That meet would give her another chance to attain the 2012 USA Olympic Trials qualifying standard of 1:01.99.
Liberty's team of Wakeley, Sarah McCorkle, Emily Mudd and Brye Ravettine will compete in the women's 400-meter freestyle relay Wednesday evening. Earlier in the day, Mudd will contest a time trial in the 200-meter freestyle.
