Liberty rising sophomore Jelena Antic earned MVP honors in the U20 European Championship for Women Division B, which wrapped up Sunday in her home country of Macedonia.
Antic helped Macedonia finish ninth in the tournament by scoring at least 23 points in each of her six appearances and recording five double-doubles. Her most impressive performance came against eventual tournament champion Great Britain on July 18. Antic tallied 25 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals, as her team suffered a narrow 70-69 setback.
Antic was the tournament's leading scorer (25.0 ppg) and rebounder (12.3 rpg), while ranking No. 2 overall in free throw percentage (86.0), No. 3 in steals (3.2 spg), No. 5 in assists (3.3 apg) and No. 6 in blocked shots (1.2 bpg). The event was open to players under the age of 20.
During her first season with the Lady Flames, Antic posted 8.4 ppg and 5.1 rpg. The 6-2 guard/forward made the Big South All-Freshman team and was one of only two conference rookies to win three Big South Freshman of the Week nods in 2009-10.
Antic's play contributed to Liberty's third consecutive Big South title and 13th league crown in the last 14 seasons.
