DAY 3
We started off the day with a delicious breakfast at the Leonardo Plaza in Tiberias. I had some eggs, pineapple, yogurt, cantaloupe, watermelon, halva and two glasses of orange juice.
We then got on the bus and headed to Megiddo. Megiddo is where the last battle will be fought (the Battle of Armegeddon). It is a very interesting place. There were rocks everywhere and the ruins they've uncovered showed how big of a community once lived there. As we were walking and exploring Megiddo, there were cows watching us! We then followed a path down 183 steps into the depths of the water tunnel.
Shortly afterward, we drove over to visit Beit She'an. This was an ancient Roman city that was completely underground until it was discovered and archaeological excavations began in the 1920s. Archaeologists uncovered an amazing theatre, which was my favorite part. It was interesting because you didn't have to yell to hear all the way to the top, even though it was big enough to seat 8,000 people! Jelena Antic was our demonstrator. She went all the way to the top while we stayed on stage. We were able to talk in regular voices and she could hear us all clearly!
We then made our way south to the Qumran, which is where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found. By the time we arrived, the temperature was 115 degrees! We were burning up out there! But it was all worth it to see and be where history was found in the mountains and caves. Lunch was served in the museum restaurant.
After we were full, we hopped on the bus to visit the Dead Sea. An average ocean has about 3.3 percent salt, with 3.5 percent at the most. Well, the Dead Sea is 35 percent salt! Our team was floating all over the place, including the coaches! It was HILARIOUS to see half the team, and especially the coaches, covered in mud! It's supposed to be really good for your skin though.
Lastly, we got back on the bus and drove 40 minutes into Jerusalem where we all got cleaned up, ate some dinner and relaxed for the remainder of the evening. We are looking forward to another day of touring the Holy Land tomorrow!
