The win marks Liberty's eighth straight triumph, and the Lady Flames are now 12-1 at home this season.
In her first at-bat since 2008, in the bottom of the third inning, pitcher Tiffani Smith ripped a double to center field for her first career hit as a Lady Flame.
The Colonials put their first runner on in the top of the fourth, when Amanda Holst was hit by a pitch with one out. She then advanced to second on a passed ball, and Katie Terrazas drew a walk. But Jordyn O'Donnell fouled out and Sandi Moynihan struck out swinging to strand the runners.
Jenny Law recorded the first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff single up the middle. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ashley Bensinger, and scored on the next play when Strickland reached first on a fielding error by shortstop O'Donnell.
Kaylee West drove in the second run with a double to center field, and crossed the plate when Meredith Baisden reached on another George Washington error, pushing the score to 3-0 in Liberty's favor.
The Colonials recorded their first hit of the contest in the top of the fifth, when Kristi Saporito singled to right. But she stayed stranded, as Tara Fogarty popped out, Elaine Nescio struck out looking and Jamie Yaniga grounded into a fielder's choice to end the at-bat.
Liberty cushioned its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Cassie Hendrix led off by reaching on a George Washington error, and moved to second when J'nae Jefferson drew a walk. With one out, pinch hitter Keely McMillon singled to left field to load the bases. Then, with two outs, Amber DePasquale ripped a single up the middle to drive in two runs.
The Lady Flames took advantage of the fifth George Washington error of the game in the top of the sixth, as Smith reached first on a muffed throw by Moynihan. Hendrix then singled through the left side, extending her hitting streak to nine games, and pinch runner Danielle Howard moved to second. After Jefferson walked to load the bases, Howard scored on a wild pitch, and Law walked to load the bases once again. With two outs, Strickland stepped up to the plate and busted her second grand slam of the season with a shot to right center, ending the game with a 10-0 score.
With the win, the Lady Flames move to 28-11 on the year, while the Colonials drop to 5-30.
DePasquale, who extended her hitting streak to three games, was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and West was 1-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored. Strickland led all players with four RBIs.
Saporito and Terrazas recorded the only two George Washington hits.
Smith (17-3) gave up only two hits and struck out eight batters in six complete innings to pick up the shutout win in the circle, while Kara Clauss (4-17) suffered the loss, giving up seven hits and fanning three batters in the contest.
The Lady Flames leave town tomorrow for Virginia Beach, Va., as non-conference doubleheaders are scheduled at Norfolk State on Tuesday and Hampton on Wednesday.
