The Colonials jumped ahead early, scoring a run in the top of the first when Jordyn O'Donnell singled to right field, scoring Lauren Wilson from second to give George Washington a 1-0 advantage.
The Lady Flames tied it up in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Amber DePasquale singled up the middle, then stole second. When Meredith Baisden hit a two-out single through the right side, right fielder Kara Clauss fumbled the ball, allowing DePasquale to score from second and tie the game, 1-1.
Liberty exploded in the bottom of the third frame, scoring five runs on five hits.
Danielle Howard gave Liberty a 2-1 lead with a single swing, ripping a line-drive home run over the left center field fence, her sixth of the season.
With one out, Jefferson tripled to right field, and Ashley Bensinger drew a walk. Jefferson scored and Bensinger moved to second when Kelly Strickland singled up the middle, followed up by a RBI single to left by Amber DePasquale. Two more runs came in when West doubled to left field, giving Liberty a 6-1 lead.
Cassie Hendrix roped a long ball over the center field fence for her third home run of the year, pushing the score to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Lady Flames didn't stop there, as Jenny Law hit a two-run bomb in nearly the same spot, giving Liberty a 9-1 advantage. But the Liberty offense still wasn't done, as Kaylee West hit an RBI single and Meredith Baisden drove in another run on a groundout, and the Lady Flames built a commanding 11-1 lead.
The Colonials couldn't recover in the top of the fifth, and three straight groundouts sealed the Liberty win.
The Lady Flames improve to 27-11 overall, after their seventh straight win, while George Washington drops to 5-29 on the year.
Liberty was paced by West, who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, while Law and Baisden each drove in two runs.
O'Donnell led the Colonials, batting 2-for-2 and driving in her team's lone run.
Kat Johnson (4-2) picked up the win in the circle, giving up three hits and fanning a career-high seven batters in a five-inning complete game.
Elaine Nescio drops to 0-8 after giving up five hits and striking out five batters in 3 and 1/3 innings.
Liberty and George Washington will face off for Game 2 of today's doubleheader later this afternoon.
