
Liberty Drops Second Spring Break Game, 19-2

The Liberty women's lacrosse team finished its Spring Break in the Sunshine State, taking on fellow NLC competitor Jacksonville at McCormick Field, Thursday night. The Dolphins (4-6, 2-0 NLC) outscored the Lady Flames (1-3, 1-2 NLC), 16-1, in the first half, outshooting Liberty, 25-3, en route to a 19-2 victory.
The opening score of the game came from the Dolphins at 28:47, when Nicole Albino found Ellyn Spangenberg in the middle of the critical scoring zone for the finish. Jacksonville capped off a 5-0 run at 22:53, as Cassie Campasano dished it to Jocelyn Jamison, who converted the pass into another Dolphins' goal.
The Lady Flames netted their first goal at 22:15, when Anna Starling toed the crease and fired a shot that raced past freshman Jacksonville goalie Hannah Collins. The Dolphins answered right back 17 seconds later, with a goal by Jamison from Abigail Warnken to make it 6-1.
The Dolphins rattled off 10 more goals before the halftime buzzer sounded for a score of 16-1.
Amanda Hurley opened Jacksonville's scoring account in the second half, with a drive from the top of the critical scoring area, finding the net at 20:33 to stretch the margin to 17-1. After another goal by the host Dolphins made it 18-1, Liberty scored with 4:20 remaining, when Sierra Clearwater converted on a free position shot to give the Lady Flames their second tally.
Jacksonville netted its final goal with 25 seconds left on the game clock to take the matchup, 19-2.
Jacksonville substitutes Emily Pepe and Jamison led the Dolphins off the bench with three goals apiece. Collins played in goal for the Dolphins in the opening period, finishing with two saves. Karli Tobin took over in the Jacksonville net in the second and recorded two saves.
Crowley led the Lady Flames in draw controls with three. A trio of Lady Flames recorded two ground balls – Karen Yates, Laura Miller and Crowley. Four Liberty players posted a caused turnover – Camille Little, Lauren See, Luetters and Crowley. Leutters played the full game in the net for Liberty finishing with five saves.
Liberty returns to Lynchburg, Va., on Saturday for its first ever home game. The Lady Flames will play host Anne Arundel. The opening draw is set for 6 p.m.
