In the bottom of the first inning, Redal (Jr., Moses Lake, Wash.) tied the Big South record for consecutive games with hit when he lined a single to right field giving the Liberty center fielder at least one base knock for the 31st straight contest. Redal ties the previous standard set by UNC Asheville shortstop Kevin Weidenbacher last season.
Old Dominion used three consecutive singles in the fourth inning to plate the game's first run. With one out, left fielder Donnie Corsner, designated hitter Brett Harris and first baseman Josh Wright each singled to load the bases. The second baseman followed with a fielder's choice grounder to score Costner for a 1-0 Monarch lead.
In the fifth inning, Old Dominion upped its advantage with four runs. With runners on first and second base and one out, third baseman Jake McAloose connected for his fourth home run of the season, a liner over the left-center field wall, giving the visitors a 4-0 edge. Later in the frame, Wright lifted a sacrifice fly to score Corsner, who reached on single, for a 5-0 lead.
Liberty plated its first run of the game in the bottom of seventh inning. Designated hitter Cody Brown (Sr., Cumming, Ga.) led off the frame by ripping a home run off the Worthington Stadium scoreboard in left-center field. The senior's third four-bagger of the year, made it 5-1 Old Dominion.
Old Dominon added a run in the eighth on an RBI single by center fielder Max Most and plated another run in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Corsner. The Flames plated a run in the bottom of the frame on a RBI single by shortstop Matt Williams (Fr., Franklin, Tenn.) for the final score of 7-2.
Liberty starter Chris McDougal (Fr., RHP, Poquoson, Va.) takes the loss, evening his record at 1-1 on the year. The freshman right-hander, the first of five pitchers in the game for the Flames, gave up five runs on nine hits over the first 4 1/3 innings.
Old Dominion starter Chris Boggs ups his record to 4-0 on the season. The right-hander allowed two runs on 11 hits over 8 2/3 innings. He struck out seven batters and walked one.
First baseman Trey Wimmer (Fr., Greenwood, S.C.) and second baseman P.J. Jimenez (Jr., Yucaipa, Calif.) had two hits each for Liberty.
The Monarchs' McAloose led all hitters in the contest with three hits. Shortstop Gerard Hall and Harris added two hits each for Old Dominion.
Liberty hosts the Winthrop Eagles in the opener of a three-game Big South Conference series, Friday. First pitch at Worthington Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
