Student-Athlete Q&A
Is there anything special you do pregame or postgame and why?
Both before and after a race I make sure to pray. When I get behind the blocks, I acknowledge that it is entirely by His work and grace that I have made it here and it is only by Him that I am able to swim this race. Through this I remind myself I am doing this for His glory alone and that means I am going to go out and put my best effort in. After the race when I am warming down, I thank God for the opportunity and for the outcome regardless of whether it was a good swim or not, I acknowledge that it is only by Him that I was able to complete the race in the time I did and that it was entirely to glorify Him.
What is your most memorable athletic moment/accomplishment?
While I love achieving the goals I have been working toward day in and day out, my favorite moments in my athletic career have mainly come from the things that made me laugh and still do. One of these moments is at a meet where I was swimming some off events, so I swam the 200 IM, and I don't know where my mind went but after the first 25 of back instead of a flip turn I did a crossover and did a full breaststroke pull down before realizing something wasn't right. One of the best parts was that the officials standing right above me didn't catch anything until the people cheering for me said something.
What is your favorite hobby outside of athletics?
Baking and reading.
Do you have any current pets?
Shasta is a Belgian Malinois, short-haired pointer mix, and Jack (full name Captain Jack Sparrow) is a Belgian Malinois.
