Bert Locklin joined the Liberty swimming & diving coaching staff in August 2015, and currently serves as the team’s diving coach. Locklin, Liberty’s Associate Athletics Director of Compliance since September 2012, brings a wealth of diving experience to the program.
Prior to his time in compliance, Locklin spent four seasons (2002-06) as head men’s and women’s diving coach at Virginia Tech. Locklin also served on the Advisory Board for the Christiansburg Aquatic Center from 2008-11.
Locklin was an All-American diver at Nebraska, finishing seventh in men’s three-meter diving at the 1998 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming & Diving Championships. He was also named a team captain and SAAC representative.
In his role as Liberty’s Associate Athletics Director of Compliance, Locklin serves as the liaison between the university and NCAA as well as the Big South Conference. He is responsible for supervising the compliance team that is tasked with educating the athletics administration, coaches, student-athletes and our entire Flames Nation on current NCAA rules and regulations. He and his staff are responsible for monitoring recruiting rules, communicating eligibility certifications, monitoring financial aid and awards limits, submitting waivers of NCAA Legislation, and reporting violations to the Big South Conference Office and the NCAA. He also serves as an ex-officio member of the Liberty's Faculty Senate Athletics Committee and sits on the Athletics Compliance Committee.
Locklin brought a wealth of experience to Liberty, previously serving in the compliance office at Virginia Tech from 2006 until 2012. He served as the Assistant Director of Compliance and Director of Compliance, before being promoted to become Virginia Tech’s Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance, a title he held until coming to Liberty in 2012. He was appointed to the ACC Committee on Student-Athlete Welfare during his final year on the Virginia Tech staff.
A native of Edmond, Okla., Locklin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science from Nebraska in May 2001, and graduated with distinction with a Master’s of Science in Sports Administration from Liberty in May 2014.
Locklin and his wife, Kellan, currently reside in Lynchburg with two daughters – Dylan and Fiona Bean– and one son, Hagen.
