Student-Athlete Q&A
What made Liberty University the right place for you to attend college/compete at the collegiate level?
It was the perfect place because it immediately felt like home on campus and was a place where I could grow academically, athletically, and spiritually all at the same time.
Is there anything special you do pregame or postgame and why?
I wear my left sock on my right foot and right sock on my left foot.
Who in your life inspires you and why are they such an inspiration?
My parents inspire me the most as they always push me to be my best while also setting a great example.
What is your most memorable athletic moment/accomplishment?
Beating Jacksonville for the first time.
If you picked your jersey/uniform number, why is that number important to you?
My number is 21 because my dad’s college lacrosse number at Penn State was 21.
Do you have any relatives who are playing or have played college or professional sports? (Names, relation to you, what/where they played)?
Erik Merkel, my father, played Division I lacrosse at Penn State.
Favorite meal (breakfast/lunch/dinner) and what is that special meal?
For breakfast, Avocado Toast, for lunch, a BLT, and for dinner, steak and potatoes.

What is your favorite hobby outside of athletics?
Hanging out with friends.
Do you have any current pets (name and type of animal)?
I have two cats, Hazel and Maui.

Tom Brady

My Bible is my favorite possession.

Anything by Taylor Swift.
What is your dream vacation spot and why?
Switzerland because of the beautiful scenery of the Swiss Alps.
