After a successful five-year career as a player from 2018-22, Lizzie Hamlett joined the Liberty field hockey staff as the Director of Analytics in July 2023.
In Hamlett’s first year on staff with the program, Liberty posted a 17-3 overall record and earned the program’s first-ever at-large berth to the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship. Hamlett and the Lady Flames went 7-0 in BIG EAST regular season play to claim the outright BIG EAST regular season crown. Liberty had a 12-game winning streak during the 2023 season, which included a 2-1 double overtime win at No. 1 North Carolina. Hamlett and the Lady Flames became the first team ever to win twice at Karen Shelton Stadium, home of the Tar Heels. Hamlett has defeated UNC once as a member of the Liberty field hockey staff and once as a player.
As a student-athlete for the Liberty field hockey program, Hamlett was a two-time NFHCA All-South Region honoree, earning first team recognition in 2022 and second team honors in 2021. She was also a two-time All-BIG EAST team selection, receiving first team honors in 2022 and second team recognition in 2021. Hamlett was also a two-time VaSID All-State first team and a BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Hamlett wrapped up her Liberty career with 26 goals (tied for 11th in program history), 20 assists (12th in school history), 72 points (12th in program history) and seven game-winning goals (tied for ninth in school history). She enjoyed her best offensive season in 2022 with 10 goals, seven assists and 27 points. In the fall of 2021, Hamlett finished with nine goals, five assists and 23 points while scoring five game-winning goals, which is tied for the most in a single season in school history. Hamlett and the fall 2021 Liberty field hockey program became the first team in school history to a national championship game at the NCAA Division I level. The squad finished with a school-record 20 wins against only three losses and had a 17-game winning streak that season, which included a 3-2 (4-2 penalty strokes) win at No. 1 Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. Hamlett and Liberty played in the NCAA Final Four, defeating No. 5 Maryland 3-2 in double overtime before falling 2-0 to No. 7 Northwestern in the NCAA title game.
Hamlett earned a bachelor’s degree in strategic communication: social media management from Liberty in Dec. 2021. She also earned a master’s degree in sport management from Liberty in May 2023.
Hamlett, originally from Fredericksburg, Va., currently resides in Lynchburg.
