Former Flames pitcher and 2021 National Pitcher of the Year Semifinalist Trevor DeLaite has been named the team’s Director of Pitcher Development.
DeLaite has spent the last two seasons with the Liberty baseball program. The Bangor, Maine native was a standout for the Flames in 2021 after transferring from Maine. Last year, he served as a student assistant with the 2022 Flames.
In his position, DeLaite will assist with pitching-specific growth plans, practice and training organization, analytic tracking and opponent scouting.
DeLaite set a program record for victories in a season in his only year in a Flames’ uniform, fashioning a 12-1 record with a 2.17 ERA in 16 starts in 2021. Besides leading the ASUN Conference in wins, the left-hander led the ASUN with 107 2/3 innings pitched and was second in the conference in ERA and strikeouts with 88. He anchored a Liberty pitching staff that helped the Flames post a 41-16 record and receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Knoxville, Tenn., Regional, where they advanced to the regional final.
At the end of the year, DeLaite became the first pitcher in program history to be named a semifinalist for the National Pitcher of the Year. The left-hander was one of five semifinalists for the prestigious award. In addition, he was named an All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and the College Baseball Foundation. He also was the ASUN Pitcher of the Year, selected to the first-team all-conference team and named to the league’s all-tournament team.
DeLaite, the 2015-16 Gatorade Maine Prep Baseball Player of the Year, began his collegiate career at Maine and pitched for the Black Bears from 2018-20. The left-hander posted a 5-8 record with a 5.68 ERA in 44 appearances. In 2019, he led Maine with a 2.12 ERA, seven saves and a .185 opponent batting average over 34 innings. He also played in the Cape Cod League with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks during the summer of 2019.
DeLaite graduated from Maine in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in finance and earned a master’s degree in executive leadership in 2022.
