Liberty sophomore Kallie Corbin has been recognized nationally for her play at the setter position this past season. Corbin was tabbed an honorable mention Stellar Spiker by the Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com).
The Stellar Spiker awards feature 14 first-team selections, 14 second-team honorees and 56 honorable mention players. They honor players who "exhibited excellence and balance," according to CVU.com. Corbin (Beaverton, Ore.), one of 10 setters included on the honorable mention list, was the only Big South player to appear on the Stellar Spiker rosters.
Corbin was previously decorated by the Collegiate Volleyball Update on Oct. 30, when she was named CVU.com National Player of the Week. Also a three-time Big South Player of the Week, Corbin helped the Lady Flames win a program Division I-record 27 matches and capture their first Big South title since 2001.
Corbin earned first-team All-Big South distinction and was a Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) first-team all-state pick during her sophomore campaign. She was named to five all-tournament teams and was voted MVP at both the Big South Championship and the Liberty Invitational presented by Pepsi.
Statistically, the sophomore led the Big South and ranked No. 35 nationally with 12.70 assists per game. Her 1,625 assists were the most by a Lady Flame since 2002. She also paced the Lady Flames with 49 service aces.
The Collegiate Volleyball Update has honored the Lady Flames' year, which featured a 16-win increase from 2006 and 10-straight 3-0 sweeps, on several occasions. In addition to Corbin's pair of recognitions, freshman Nicki Scripko (RS/OH, Fayetteville, N.C.) was recently labeled a Rising Star and the Lady Flames were an honorable mention Deep Digging Team.
