LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty senior Brynn McManus has been named Conference USA Softball Player of the Week, announced Monday.
A native of McMinnville, Ore., McManus earns her second career CUSA Player of the Week honor and second this season (also March 16). She is the second Lady Flame to be named CUSA Player of the Week this season, as Savannah Jessee received the honor on Feb. 23.
McManus is the 13th player in program history with multiple conference player of the week honors in the same season and first since Rachel Roupe's five CUSA Player of the Week awards last year.
She had an amazing week, batting .714 (10-for-14) with two doubles, five RBI, two runs, a .750 on base percentage and .857 slugging percentage. She helped Liberty earn a 2-1 series win at Missouri State. McManus has posted five straight multiple-hit games. Additionally, she played three different positions in the field (center field, first base, right field). Her diving catch in right preserved Danner Allen's no-hitter in the fourth inning on Friday.
Last week, she went 2-for-3 with one run scored on Tuesday against (RV) North Carolina. She singled and scored during the seventh inning. On Thursday, she went 2-for-4 during a 2-0 loss at Missouri State.
McManus then recorded back-to-back three-hit games on Saturday, helping Liberty to a doubleheader sweep of the Bears and a series victory. In game one, she went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBI. She pushed Liberty's lead to 2-0 with a fifth-inning RBI single, and then her two-run single in the sixth made it 6-0. In game two, an 8-0 win, McManus batted 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
The Lady Flames (18-19) play four home games this week, beginning on Wednesday at 3 p.m. against nationally-ranked Duke.
