LYNCHBURG, VA. – Liberty shortstop Tanner Marsh has been selected as one of the 50 of the nation's best shortstops to be named a 2026 Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist by the College Baseball Foundation. The top 50 shortstops were selected based on both their offensive and defensive production this season.
The award honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented by the College Baseball Foundation later this year. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
Marsh becomes the second Liberty shortstop selected as a Brooks Wallace Award semifinalist. Dalton Britt was named a semifinalist in 2014.
Marsh has been one of Liberty's top offensive threats this season. The Flames' leadoff hitter enters tonight's game against Virginia, leading Liberty with a .362 batting average and in runs scored with 45. In addition, the junior leads the Flames with 59 hits, a .455 on-base percentage and an OPS of 1.013. Marsh also has 34 RBI and a slugging percentage of .558.
The shortstop is among the CUSA leaders in several offensive categories. He leads the conference in runs scored and triples. Marsh also enters today among the leaders in batting average (6th), hits (2nd), on-base percentage (10th), OPS (7th), walks (tied - 9th) and stolen bases (tied - 4th). He enters Wednesday's game having reached base safely in 22 consecutive contests.
Defensively, Marsh has established himself as one of the top defensive players in the country, committing six errors in 160 chances for a .963 fielding percentage. Currently, he is fourth in the CUSA with 97 assists.
Marsh was named to the 2026 CUSA Preseason All-Conference Team. He has started every game at shortstop since joining the Liberty roster in 2024.
