
Lady Flames Fall 4-3 at Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis team (12-9) fell 4-3 in their final regular season match of the 2026 season at Richmond (8-9) on Friday afternoon.
The Lady Flames secured singles victories at the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 positions but were unable to overcome Richmond's advantage in doubles play.
Richmond secured the doubles point with wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 1 doubles. Beatriz Guerra and Abby Lee defeated Anika Lemus and Candy Wai, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles. Liberty's Daniella O'Neill and Milana Tsulygina managed a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles over Elizabeth Novak and Lucy Webber, but it was not enough to claim the doubles point. Richmond's Lara Bakhaya and Sofia Barbulescu clinched the point with a 7-5 victory over Yoanna Radulova and Maria Turchetto on court one.
In singles play, Liberty evened the overall score quickly, starting with Joseph's dominant 6-2, 6-4 win over Guerra at No. 5 singles. Turchetto added another point for Liberty with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Novak at No. 2 singles for a 2-1 advantage. Richmond responded at No. 3 singles as Webber overcame Yoanna Radulova in three sets, 6-0, 1-6, 6-3, leveling the dual at 2-2.
Tsulygina gave Liberty another lead at No. 4 singles, defeating Lee in a tight three-set match, 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3. Richmond then tied the score again as Barbulescu edged out O'Neill at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The decisive point came at No. 6 singles, where Lainey O'Neil clinched the match for the Spiders by defeating Lemus in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Richmond secured the dual match with a final score of 4-3.
Liberty concludes its stretch of eight consecutive road games to close the 2026 regular season. They went 3-5 across the stretch. The team prepares for the 2026 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship, with brackets announced on Monday.
