LYNCHBURG, Va. – Competing across town at the University of Lynchburg on Friday, Liberty notched several top finishes on a waterlogged opening day of the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational. Leading the way were Todd Benhase (men's pole vault runner-up) and Sonja Semling (women's 10K third-place finisher)
In an event moved inside Wake Field House due to the steady rainfall, Benhase made first-attempt clearances at each of his first three heights, topping out at 16-2.75 for second place.
Freshman Semling battled the raindrops for all 25 laps of her Liberty outdoor track debut, placing third overall in a 10K time of 37:42.14.
Lady Flames also picked up a pair of fourth-place showings on the day, including Anna Fletcher in the women's 1,500 invitational section (4:47.74) and Kona Moore in the women's pole vault (10-11.75).
Redshirt freshman Jack Holub paced the Flames during his first outdoor race in a Flames uniform, running a 4:00.07 for sixth in the men's 1,500 invitational section.
