
Liberty Splits Pair of Matches in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. – The Liberty (10-5) women's tennis team split matches on the road this weekend in Florida, falling to FGCU (12-4) with a narrow 5-2 final on Friday before bouncing back to defeat USF (5-8) 4-1 on Sunday.
The Lady Flames began a stretch of eight matches away from Lynchburg to close out the 2026 season. Liberty improved to 4-4 away from home this spring.
Florida Gulf Coast 5, Liberty 2
The Lady Flames struggled in the doubles round, with FGCU clinching the point through wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Cecilie Maeland and Anjali Kotecha defeated Liberty's Celina Joseph and Candy Wai, 6-1 on court two. At No. 3 doubles, Daniella O'Neill and Milana Tsulygina managed a 7-6 (1) win over Ashley Matz and Sabrina Jaramillo. However, the decisive point came from the Eagles' No. 1 doubles team of Nora Svensson and June Bjork, who overcame Yoanna Radulova and Maria Turchetto, 6-4.
In singles competition, O'Neill claimed a victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Svensson. FGCU responded with Matz defeating Turchetto, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles, and June Bjork added to the Eagles' tally with a tight 6-3, 7-6 (4) win against Radulova at No. 2 singles. Tsulygina secured another point for the Lady Flames on court four, outlasting Jaramillo in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. However, FGCU clinched the match with Anjali Kotecha's 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Wai at No. 5 singles. With the match already secured, FGCU's Africa Burillo Berezak's narrow 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 win against Celina Joseph at No. 6 singles, sealing a 5-2 overall victory.
