
Lady Flames Earn Wins Over Maryland, Syracuse on Saturday

The Lady Flames improve to 5-9 on the season after going 3-1 at the Liberty Softball Classic. Maryland falls to 6-9, while Syracuse is now 7-5.
Tomorrow's scheduled game against Ohio State, scheduled to take place at Virginia's Palmer Park, has been cancelled due to inclement weather in the forecast.

Turning Point
- The Lady Flames jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, with Savannah Jessee hitting an RBI double and Alexia Carrasquillo later following with a two-run homer.
- Maryland brought the go-ahead run to the plate with one out in the top of the seventh, trailing 3-1. Anna McGowan's sacrifice fly narrowed the gap to 3-2, but Anders finished off the win by getting Penta to pop out to end the game.Â
- Liberty held a 9-6 advantage in hits over Maryland. The Lady Flames left 10 runners on base compared to nine stranded by the Terrapins.
- Anders (2-0) pitched her first career complete game, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, walking two and fanning one.
- Elisea Wiegand (1-1) drew the loss, allowing three runs on three hits while pitching on 1/3 of an inning as the starter before Wurst came in for 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
- Alexia Carrasquillo went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and one run scored, while Ella Fox, Paige Doerr and Brooke Roberts had two hits each for Liberty.
- Woods and Murphy recorded two hits each for Maryland.

Turning Point
- Syracuse loaded the bases with nobody out against Liberty starter Katie Love in the first, only to strand all three. The Lady Flames left the bases loaded in the first as well. After the first two batters reached in the second, Danner Allen entered in relief of Love. All told, Syracuse stranded 12 runners and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
- Liberty jumped ahead with a three-run homer by Savannah Jessee in the second inning and kept adding on.
- The Lady Flames outhit Syracuse 6-4 for the game, with the Orange committing two errors.
- Allen (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings of two-hit, shutout softball while walking five and striking out seven.
- Syracuse starter Jackie Pengel drew the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.
- Jessee batted 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and one run scored. Ella Fox scored a season-high three runs, while Maci Strickland doubled and drove in one run and Carrasquillo recorded two RBI.
- Liberty and Syracuse split a pair of meetings this weekend, with the Orange winning 5-3 last night. The Lady Flames lead the all-time series, 2-1.
- Tonight was Liberty's first shutout of an ACC team since a 1-0 win at Virginia on April 9, 2024.
- Allen finished one shy of her career high of eight strikeouts, set on Feb. 23, 2025 against Hofstra.
- Fox is the first Lady Flame to score three runs in a game since Savannah Woodard scored three times against UTEP on March 28, 2025.Â
The Lady Flames will remain home and host the Liberty Softball Invitational, Friday through Sunday. Liberty will host Radford, Marshall and UConn. Â
