LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty defender Avery Paulson has been named the CUSA Defensive Player of the Week, marking Liberty's fifth straight week of receiving the honor, the conference announced Tuesday.
Paulson represents the sixth Player of the Week honoree this season (Ainsley Leja (Goalkeeper), Sept. 15, Avenley Monteith, Sept. 29, Sallie Garner, Oct. 6, Maddyson Kerley, Oct. 13). Liberty owns the most CUSA Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
Liberty kicked off the week with a 2-0 shutout victory at home over Delaware on Thursday. The Blue Hens were held to just two shots in the game and without a shot on goal. Liberty has held their opponents to five shots and two shots on goal or fewer in seven games this season.
The Lady Flames earned a point on the road in a scoreless draw against Sam Houston. The shutout marked Liberty's sixth shutout in conference action and the eleventh clean sheet this season.
Liberty (13-2-2, 6-0-1 CUSA) wraps up the regular season at home on Sunday afternoon, taking on Missouri State (4-8-4, 1-3-3 CUSA). The 2025 CUSA Championship final rematch will kick off at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
