
No. 17 Lady Flames, Spiders Set For Sunday Showdown

LYNCHBURG, Va. – No. 17 Liberty will close out the weekend with a home game against another Commonwealth opponent, Richmond, on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
The Lady Flames are 2-0 on the year and most recently bested another in-state counterpart, James Madison, by a 4-1 count on Wednesday afternoon in their home opener. Four different Liberty players entered the scoring column in the victory: Morena Giacosa (first career goal), Luna Prieri (first goal in Liberty uniform), Josefina Tomasi and Tori Griffiths.
Richmond (1-2) is looking to rebound from back-to-back losses. On Friday, the Spiders fell 2-1 in overtime at home to James Madison.
This is the first meeting between the two programs since the 2019 season, a game won by the Lady Flames by a 3-0 score in Lynchburg. Liberty holds a 3-0 edge in the all-time series.

- Sophomore forward Josefina Tomasi paces Liberty in goals (2) and points (6) and is tied for second on the squad in assists (2). Tomasi's highlight-reel reverse goal versus James Madison on Wednesday was the No. 3 play on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 plays listing. Tomasi has nine goals in 20 career games so far in her Liberty career.
- Seven of Liberty's eight goals this season have come in the second half. All eight of the Lady Flames' goals have gone in the last 35-plus minutes of
- Reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Lou Combrinck notched one assist against JMU. BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Dara Semmartin added an assist as well. Combrinck paces the squad with three assists. Semmartin has 13 assists in 20 career games.
- Liberty is looking for its 17th home win in the last 20 games. The Lady Flames are 16-3 on their home turf dating back to the start of the 2023 season.
- Liberty's triumph at No. 5 Duke to open the season on Aug. 29 was its highest-ranked win to open a season in program history and its sixth top-five victory all-time. Additionally, it marked the first time in program history Liberty overcame a three-goal deficit to win.
- Richmond is the second of six Virginia schools Liberty will face this season. The Lady Flames' upcoming games against Commonwealth foes are: William & Mary (road, Sept. 28), Old Dominion (home, Oct. 3), No. 3 Virginia (road, Oct. 14) and Longwood (road, Oct. 26).
