LYNCHBURG, VA. – Senior forward Zach Lifferth has been selected the OVC Offensive Player of the Week by the league's communications directors, the Ohio Valley Conference office announced this morning.
The forward becomes the second Liberty player to be named OVC Offensive Player of the Week this season. Defender Lucas Kelly received the honor for Aug. 26 after his play during the season's opening weekend.
Lifferth scored three goals and assisted on another in Liberty's 6-1 win over Southern Indiana to begin OVC play on Saturday at Osborne Stadium. The forward scored the Flames' first three goals in the contest, scoring on his first three shot attempts of the match, as Liberty netted four goals in the first half.
In the second half, Lifferth assisted on a goal by Jayden Ramos for his seventh point of the match to set an OVC record. The senior's point total in the contest was the most by a Flame since Tresor Mbuyu had seven points in a 5-0 win at VMI on Aug. 28, 2018.
With his seven-point game, Lifferth is tied for the OVC lead and leads Liberty with five goals. He is also tied for second in the conference and leads the Flames with 11 points.
Lifferth and Liberty (5-2-2, 1-0 OVC) will host the Incarnate Word Cardinals at Osborne Stadium for an OVC match on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
