Women’s Tennis Opens the Fall Season at the Jimmy Powell Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team begins the fall season this weekend in Elon, N.C., at the Jimmy Powell Invitational. The two-day competition begins Friday morning and runs through Saturday afternoon.
Liberty travels to Elon as one of five teams attending the tournament. Programs the team may face include Richmond, UNCG and Virginia Tech.
The Lady Flames are set to bring five athletes to the event, including juniors Maria Turchetto and Sadie Daavettila, sophomores Yoanna Joseph and Yoanna Radaulova, and freshman Aranai Martinez. All players will compete in both singles and doubles at the tournament.

Tournament Breakdown
- The team will be competing at the Jimmy Powell Invitational for the third time in program history. The Lady Flames are participating in a fall event hosted by Elon for the ninth time. This weekend will be the third time attending the tournament under the title, 'Jimmy Powell Invitational'.
- Liberty returns six to the 2025-26 roster, including two, Daniella O'Neill and Anika Lemus, who will not compete this weekend. The Lady Flames debut a single freshman, Martinez (Spain), and a single transfer, Candy Wai (Tyler Junior College), who will not be at the event.
- Bringing five athletes, one Lady Flame may participate in doubles with an athlete from another program in the doubles portions of the tournament
