LYNCHBURG, VA. – Senior defender Carlos Trott has been named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week by the league's communications directors, the OVC office announced this morning.
It is the second time this season that the defender from Campo Bom, Brazil, has collected the honor. He was Co-OVC Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 26 for his play during the opening week of the 2025 season. It is also the third time in his career that the defender has been selected OVC Defensive Player of the Week, as he was named the OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 21, 2024.
This past week, Trott helped Liberty post a 1-0-1 record and remain unbeaten with a 4-0-2 overall record on the year. Trott, the center defender on the Flames' backline, played the full 90 minutes of each game as Liberty allowed one goal during the week.
This past Tuesday, Trott anchored a Liberty defense that did not allow a goal until the 84th minute in a tight 2-1 win over Longwood. The Flames built a 2-0 lead against the Lancers and then held off a late attack for the victory.
On Saturday, the Flames held James Madison to three shots on goal in a 0-0 tie. Liberty recorded its third shutout of the year in the tightly played, defensive contest. Trott did not allow a shot from the center of the field throughout the game, as a majority of the match was played in the midfield.
Trott and the Flames have allowed only three goals in their six games this season. Liberty has held its opponents to an average of seven shots per game. In addition, the Flames are unbeaten through the first six games to start a season for the first time since the 2021 Spring season. The Flames opened the 2021 Spring season with a 5-0-1 record.
Trott and the rest of the Flames men's soccer team will complete a stretch of home games on Friday. Liberty will welcome the No.11 UNCG Spartans to Osborne Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
