LYNCHBURG, VA. – Liberty defender Lucas Kelly was selected the Ohio Valley Co-Offensive Player of the Week and fellow Flame defender Carlos Trott was voted the Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the league's communications directors, the OVC office announced this morning.
The two Flames helped Liberty open the 2025 season with a 2-0 record this past weekend. The Flames shut out Regent 9-0 on Thursday at Osborne Stadium to begin 2025 and defeated USC Upstate 3-1 at Osborne Stadium, Sunday.
Kelly shares the Offensive Player of the Week honor with Lindenwood forward Ethan Blake. Trott, who earns his second career Defensive Player of the Week honor, shares the weekly award with Houston Christian defender Nico Kross.
Kelly was Liberty's leading scorer with three goals in its two victories. The junior defender entered 2025 having scored one career goal in his previous two seasons combined.
Kelly netted Liberty's first goal of the year in its 9-0 win over Regent on Thursday. The Wake Forest, N.C., native then scored back-to-back goals in the first half for the first multi-goal game of his career in Liberty's 3-1 win over USC Upstate.
Each of the defender's four shots was on goal. Kelly scored on his lone shot against Regent and had three attempts on frame against USC Upstate.
Trott anchored a defensive unit from his center defender spot over the first two games, as the Flames allowed one goal during the first 180 minutes of 2025. Liberty held opponents scoreless for the first 171 minutes of the year before USC Upstate scored in the 81st minute for the first goal by a Flames opponent in 2025.
Trott, a senior from Campo Bom, Brazil, did not allow a shot from the middle of the field during his 163 minutes of playing time. He was also selected as the OVC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for Oct. 21, 2024.
Kelly, Trott and the rest of the Flames men's soccer team will travel to Radford, Va., on Thursday for their first road match of the season. The Flames will face the Radford Highlanders. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Patrick D. Cupp Stadium.
