LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Siwanat Auytayakul and Carl Roothman have represented the Flames on the international stage well this Summer. Auytayakul has played at three separate M15 Nakhon Pathom events in Thailand while Roothman represented his native South Africa at the Rhine-Ruhr University Games in Germany.
Auytayakul participated in both singles and doubles in three M15 Nakhon Pathom tournaments in consecutive weeks from July 14-Aug. 2. The rising sophomore totaled a 7-3 singles record despite falling in his only match in his first tournament. Auytayakul began in the qualifying draw and advanced to the main draw with two qualifying victories at each successive event. He secured a 3-2 record in the main draw, ending his run in a three-set battle with two tiebreaking sets against India's Sidarth Rawat 6-7 (7), 7-6 (7), 6-1.
The Bangkok, Thailand native impressed in doubles with a strong performance in his final tournament. Over the first two weeks, Auytayakul collected a 1-1 record, including a withdrawal in the first round. In his final week paired with Thailand's Thantub Suksumrarn, the duo was victorious in their first three matches, including a win over the tournament's No. 2 seed 7-5, 6-3. The two finished their run in the championship final, falling in two sets 6-4, 6-4.
Roothman represented South Africa in singles and mixed doubles at the 2025 Rhine-Ruhr University Games in Germany. He and his partner fell in three sets to the eventual tournament champions 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (8). Roothman split his singles matches with a 1-1 mark, including a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Uganda's Frank Tayebwa.
"It's unreal preparation for college tennis," Roothman said. "All the guys playing here from different countries are big dogs in the college tennis world. If you have a good run here, it shows that you are at that level and you can go for it."
Roothman and Auytayakul prepare to return to Liberty this fall in the tournament season to prepare for the Flames' spring season starting in January.
