LYNCHBURG, Va. – Defending Conference USA men's basketball champion Liberty has gotten its first glance at the CUSA schedule for the 2025-26 season. The CUSA office announced its full conference schedule on Friday afternoon, with the Flames set to play 20 league games in their third year as CUSA members.
Liberty's first league game of the 2025-26 campaign will come on Dec. 28 at FIU. The Flames' first two home CUSA games feature rematches of last year's CUSA Championship semifinals and final. Liberty's first game in 2026 will be against the Kennesaw State Owls at Liberty Arena on Jan. 2, a rematch from last year's conference tournament semifinals. Two days later (Jan. 4), the Flames will host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in a conference title rematch from last season.
This year's conference slate will be different than prior years with the addition of two new teams, Delaware and Missouri State, rounding out a 12-team league in men's basketball. Rather than play home-and-home series with all teams in the league, Liberty will face nine of the other squads twice (home-and-home) and two of the teams only one time to make up the 20 league games.
This is the first time the Flames will play a 20-game CUSA schedule. During the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, Liberty played 18 league games. Liberty will play every conference foe except for Middle Tennessee and league newcomer Missouri State two times. The Flames will square off with MTSU (away) and Missouri State (home) only one time each.
The 12 teams in Conference USA for the 2025-26 season include: Liberty, Western Kentucky, Middle Tennessee, Kennesaw State, Jacksonville State, FIU, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston, New Mexico State, UTEP, Delaware and Missouri State.
Liberty's two meetings with newcomer Delaware, last year's CAA Championship runner-up, will be on Jan. 24 (home) and Feb. 4 (road). The Flames and Missouri State Bears will meet one time at Liberty Arena, Feb. 7. Liberty is 1-1 all-time versus Delaware (last meeting: Nov. 17, 2014, 61-55 win) and 0-1 all-time against Missouri State (only meeting: Nov. 26, 2013, 54-52 loss).
For the third straight year, the CUSA Men's Basketball Championship will be played at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala. The event will take place in conjunction with the CUSA Women's Basketball Championship, March 10-14. Liberty defeated Jacksonville State 79-67 in the 2025 CUSA Men's Basketball Championship title game at Propst Arena.
The Flames have claimed 10 total titles over the last seven seasons – one CUSA Championship title, one CUSA regular-season crown, three ASUN Championship crowns, four ASUN regular-season titles and an ASUN division title. Liberty has posted a 177-58 combined record over the past seven years.
Liberty's full non-conference schedule will be announced when it is finalized.
